It is a good thing for all Americans, and it is an especially good thing for young Americans, to remember the men who have given their lives in war and peace to the service of their fellow-countrymen. Readers learn about the feats of daring and personal prowess done in time past by some of the many champions of the nation in the various crises of her history. Henry Cabot Lodge and Theodore Roosevelt wrote these stories.

Theodore Roosevelt (1858 - 1919) was the 26th President of the United States (1901–1909). He is noted for his exuberant personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Progressive Movement, as well as his "cowboy" persona and robust masculinity.

Henry Cabot Lodge (1850 - 1924) was an American Republican Senator and historian from Massachusetts.
