On December 3 at 8:00 PM Eastern, NBC will air The Wiz Live! For the first time in U.S. Network television history, a live entertainment program will be accessible to viewers with visual disabilities with audio video description--narration that describes what's happening on the screen.

The described broadcast of The Wiz Live! is a pilot program that will be available in every local NBC market where SAP (Second Audio Program) audio feeds are available. NBC is partnering with Descriptive Video Works—an industry leader in the delivery of quality described video and audio description for people with a visual disability—to provide this accessible service.

An urban reimagining of L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz featuring an entirely African-American cast, The Wiz was loosely adapted from the 1974 Broadway musical of the same name.

The Wiz: The Super Soul Musical "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" is a musical with music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls (and others) and book by William F. Brown. It is an urbanized retelling of L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the context of modern African-American culture. It opened on October 21, 1974 at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to the Majestic Theatre[2] with a new cast on January 5, 1975.
